President
Isaias Holds Talks With The Special Representative Of
The UN Secretary General In The Somali Case
Asmara, 5 September 2010 - President Isaias
Afwerki in the afternoon hours today received
and held talks with the special representative
of the U.N Secretary General in the Somali case,
Ambassador Augustini Mahiga.
In the meeting held at Denden Hall, President
Isaias pointed out that the UN has a higher
responsibility to find a peaceful solution for
the Somali issue and expressed Eritrea's full
support for the initiatives being taken by the
world body. He went on to point out Eritrea's
readiness to work together with the Special
Representative.
Moreover, President Isaias expressed his
conviction that the Somali issue would be
resolved in a politically inclusive manner and
emphasized the UN's responsibility in creating
conducive grounds for the Somalis to resolve
their differences.
Ambassador Augustini Mahiga on his part
expressed appreciation for being able to meet
with President Isaias and learn about Eritrea's
views on this issue. He went on to underline
his readiness to strive to bring about peaceful
solution to the Somali issue by working with all
the countries in the region as well as those in
different parts of the world.

Eritrea in a Final Show-Down Against Uganda, the Defending Champion, in the
CECAFA U-20 Final
By Alula Abraha
It’s remembered that Eritrean young guns,
the Red Sea boys, shrugged off Rwanda
1-0 in the semi-final. Like Rwanda, Kenya was the other casualty of the other
semi-final at the expense of the defending champions, Uganda. In fact Kenya were
in the lead but Uganda came back from behind to hurt the Harambe-boys.
It was
Kenya’s
second consecutive defeat. Kenya lost 1-0 in its last group match
against the host Eritrea in a rainy day and finished runner-up to Eritrea in
group-A.It’s the second time that Uganda coming back from behind and win a game.It was
remembered that Uganda, in one of its group B match against Yemen, was 2-1 down
until 6 minutes to go, when
Uganda turned it around to win the game 3-2 helped
by the controversial equalizing goal allowed from what later appeared to be a
clear off-side.
Mathematically, both teams are head-to-head favourite to lift the friendship &
Development Cup of the CECAFA U-20 championship on Saturday.
In the run up to
the final place of the CECAFA U-20 cup, Uganda scored 11 & conceded 6 goals in 4
games, while, Eritrea scored 6 but conceded only 2 in 5 matches. Eritrean back
line has proven time and again as the tightest defense whereas Uganda defense
seems to leak more often than not. Are the Red Sea boys going to take advantage
of Uganda’s leaky defense? It’s a million Nakfa question as Eritrea’s trouble is
its shyness in front of the goal. But Football cannot be predicted based on a
mathematical calculation. A team can switch tactic to approach the game quite
differently. The semi final against Rwanda last Wednesday was a classic example
where Eritrea should have won the game by a wider margin but end up to win it by
only a goal to nil, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats for the whole 90
minutes

Some legitimate
questions.... Source of funding
The first obvious question is, who
is funding the conference?
Knowing the funders helps one know
their agenda and what their real
goals are.
..This funding issue reminded me
about a
Tigre song we used to sing when were kids. There are different
versions of it, but ours was, ‘Abuye
mesa mn sefer ib shentet mil’et mn
temer’ (My father arrived with a bag
full of dates). This was during the
good old days when dates were
regarded as a hard to get precious
delicacy. Didn’t the renowned Wed
Amir describe the lips of his lover
as, ‘Kenafera messl temr Kassala’
(Her lips resembling the the dates
of Kassala). I remember during my
childhood when shopkeepers gave us
‘halewat,’ stone-hard candies to
attract clients to shop from their
stores a traditional advertisement
long before it became science and
arts and ended up polluting our
minds and our physical space.
Read the whole shebang of double
standards..

Assena’s
reporting, objective or another propaganda rat?
The picture at left is different from the photos
we have been seeing during the meetings of the
EDA. Although the picture has raised many
questions and has become the symbol of the
meeting, conference with no identity that is,
some opposition media outlets have intentionally
evaded to raise the burning issue of the opening
session or to ask participants about the new
image of the EDA organized gatherings.
Some of the reporters from Addis are ardent
supporters of the conference and can not be
counted upon to provide objective reports.
They are just propaganda rats. Expecting Mehari
to report events and situations as they unfold
would be naïve. Simply stupid.
What is bothering many is assenna.com's
reporting. Assena conducted an interview with
some of the participants couple of days ago. One
would refrain from accusing Assena of staging
the interview unless those on the other side of
world selected those folks who were interviewed
and he went along.
ናይ ሰብቲከት’ኳ
ከይደቀስካ ዝሕለም ነገር እንድዩ።
Why didn’t Assena ask the participants about the
absence of the Eritrean national flag and
Meley. These flags were always hoisted during
EDA meetings. Furthermore, the esteemed news
media again evaded asking why the conference
left out the photo of the father of liberation
war, Hamid Idris Awate. Was there a discussion
about flags and Awate's photo?
ንልዕላዊት ሃገረ ኤርትራ ዘይፈልጥ ዋዕላ?
What happened to
the Eritrean Flag? Where is Meley?
Where is the photo of our hero and father of our
liberation war, Hamid Idris Awate? What is the
message?
Waela,
Ethiopia's attempt at Preempting Eritrea?
So, whose agenda is Waela?
Some of the reasons given by Ethiopia why,
at the cost of unrepairable damage to EDA,
including the decision to exclude EPDP, it
forced a rushed conference:
Sanctions
might be lifted before the end of
2010. (Meles received hints from
Monitoring group?)
Eritrea's
gold mining will enrich Eritrea in 2011;
Eritrea will hire top PR consulting firm
to beat them at their game, after lift
of ban, Eritrea will be armed with state
of the art defensive fire-power,
surveillance and military jamming
technology, and anti-aircraft missiles..
EDA/Mahber Andenet believes HGDF will
have an election . Get them before they
hold election?
( Per Dr. Yosuf Berhanu, Head of Foreign
Office of Salvation Front)
Eritrea
might enter into a defense agreement
with Egypt
HGDF
might recognize EPDP as an opposition
Eritrea's
proposal regarding solution to the
Somali problem gaining listeners;
Eritrea might turn around public
opinion.
The Eritrean
youth takes oath in the name of our martyrs to
defend the motherland and we conspire with
Ethiopia to betray our promise to our martyrs to
defend their sacrifice?
As the so called Waela is closing in, Kidan
leaders are pleading to their client websites
like awate and to a few activists in Europe and
North America to salvage a conference
already gone array. They forgot what they see
before their eyes is the exact product they
wished for when they have been working
tirelessly to own the Waela by excluding others.
What they did in the dark of night, sun shine
exposed it. It is too little too late to cry for
help now. You broke it; you own it.
When their exclusionary agenda has come to bite
them in their behind, they are scrambling at the
eleventh hour to change the external appearance
of the conference to the eye of the observer.
This, they are doing it by offering an open
invitation to any non-Muslim men, women with
their wives, husbands, mothers, grand mothers,
grand fathers, in - laws, sisters, brothers,
sons, daughters, neighbors what have you, with
air tickets paid in full. The phrase “waela
hatta hatta” rings true today. It is said that
some have accepted this life-time opportunity
not that they are interested in the gathering
but simply to visit Addis Ababa. Who can blame
them?

“It is one thing to miss the
boat. It is quite another to catch a
sinking boat.”
Dennis Slothower, a financial
columnist
A concerned friend from Europe
called me few weeks ago and lamented about
EPDP’s absence from waela. His rational
was EPDP will miss the boat they are going to be
alienated from the Eritrean people. We
spend lengthy of time discussing the cons and
pros of not joining. I also explained my
friend the position EPDP took. I magnified
to the friend that EPDP was not against a
genuine waela but against the grave mistake EDA
was committing, drifting from the original waela
design. At the end of our discussion I
thought my friend was at least half convinced
and saw the hidden plans of waela.
..…that is why an experimental National
Conference where we make tentative moves at
working together, and then celebrate our
success, is not an option for us… neither is an
alliance that is a marriage of convenience that
is not expected to bear fruits worthy of the
union… nor military options that bate on options
that would make a confirmed gambler tremble…
what we need is a resolute determination to set
the goal and march straight at it… no gimmickry…
no cheap propaganda… pure unadulterated resolve
to be prepared to get to the bottom of things
that continue to hamper us and reduce our
matured politicians to name-calling each other
in an endless display of ...real work.
