Asmara, 01 November 2025 — The Ministry of Education on 31 October conducted an assessment meeting to review activities implemented under the 27th Students’ Summer Work Program, which took place from 7 July to 17 August 2025.
At the meeting, reports were presented focusing on the preparatory work carried out for the program, the activities implemented as per the set plan, the strengths and challenges encountered, and the measures taken to address those challenges. Participants held extensive discussions on the reports presented.
According to the report presented by Mr. Fitwi Woldegergis, Director of the Students’ Summer Work Program at the Ministry of Education, over 23,500 students, coordinated by about 900 teachers, participated in the program from 163 centers. The program covered activities such as forestation, water and soil conservation, and related fields, achieving an implementation rate of 78%.
Regarding the 2026 program, Mr. Fitwi stated that it will include strengthening greening clubs and recognizing exemplary schools that made notable contributions to the initiative.
Mr. Petros Hailemariam, representative of the Minister of Education, emphasized the significance of reviewing activities to ensure the effective implementation of the program and called for strengthened participation from partners.
According to the Ministry of Education, since the inception of the Students’ Summer Work Program in 1994, about 600,000 students, including 35% female participants, have taken part in the initiative.
