MESKEREM INVITES LEADERSHIP OF THE ERITREAN
OPPOSITION TO COMMENT ON
THE PEACE AGREEMENT THAT WAS SIGNED IN
ASMARA BETWEEN THE SUDANESE GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY
AND EAST SUDAN FRONT.

October 2006 – The Sudanese Government of National Unity
and the East Sudan Front today signed a historic peace
agreement in Asmara. The Agreement was reached through
mediation and care of the Eritrean government.
In a speech he delivered at the signing ceremony,
President Isaias Afwerki underlined that being a major
component of the building blocks of peace, all the
parties involved in its consummation need to exert
unremitting efforts through meeting all challenges in
the process of its implementation. He also commended all
the parties who demonstrated the requisite patience and
competence to ensure the realization of the peace
agreement.
Oct 14, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Eastern rebels
and the government of Sudan are to sign a peace deal on
Saturday to end a decade of low-level revolt in the
resource-rich east of Africa’s largest country.
Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir
and high-level officials are to travel to neighbouring
Eritrea, which mediated the deal. The agreement is the
third peace deal Khartoum has negotiated in less then two
years.

East Sudan Front, Mr. Mousa Mohammed Ahmed, said that the
peace agreement to be signed in Asmara tomorrow would ensure
the satisfaction of the aspirations of the East Sudan
natives. He added that the Agreement is certainly exemplary
as regards the mutual satisfaction among the Sudanese
people.

04:30. — The Sudanese president will meet the Eritrean
president on the sideline of the signing ceremony of the
Eastern Sudan peace agreement, the state-run SUNA
reported.
Asmara, 8 October 2006 – President Isaias Afwerki
conducted a three days tour of inspection in the Gash
Barka region, sub-zones of Golij, Tesseney, Haikota,
Shambuko and Molki beginning from the 6th of October to
observe the overall agricultural progress and
infrastructural development programs thus far implemented.
Access to potable water supply in Shakat administrative area

29 September 2006 - The inhabitants of Shakat
administrative area in Karora sub-zone have now access to
potable water supply thanks to the construction of a new
facility to that effect. The project comprises the digging of
a new well, installation of solar energy power, construction
of a water tanker, as well as distribution of pipelines and
stations.

President Isaias Afwerki today
received and held talks with the French Development Minister,
Ms. Brijit Jirardin at the Denden Hall here. The talks focused
on the development of Franco-Eritrean relations, the
prevailing situation in the Horn of Africa, the role Eritrea
is playing to promote peace and stability in the region, as
well as the current global politics and the negative US
interference in the internal affairs of different countries.

The Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr.
Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, today held talks with
the Pakistani roving Ambassador to Sub-Saharan
countries, Mr. Hamid Asgar Khadawi. Both sides
agreed to strengthen the historic relations
between Eritrea and Pakistan and that of the
PFDJ and the Pakistani ruling Party, as wells
as to exert efforts to foster cooperation on
concrete projects.

response, Amnesty International has launched a new campaign that
will fight to restore our traditional American values of
justice, rule of law, and human dignity.
The
rainfall in September has been normal or slightly above
normal. Crop conditions in the mechanized areas of Gash Barka
are above normal and above last year. Traditional agriculture
conditions are similar to last year. The main pastoral areas
appears better than average, as the NDVI map reflecting the
vegetation conditions...

killed and many wounded in religious riots in western Ethiopia
this week when Christians and Muslims clashed after a seasonal
Orthodox festival, officials said Wednesday.
In addition to the casualties, two Christian
churches were set ablaze and some 100 people forced to flee
during the unrest that flared up Sunday near the town of Jimma,
about 490 kilometers (305 miles) west of Addis Ababa, they
said.
